This is lens is by no means perfect. It isn’t corner-to-corner sharp at wide open aperture, it isn’t really beautifully made, it doesn’t have aperture ring. But… it costs almost like 3rd party manufacturer lens, and offers great maximum aperture in a small package and for a reasonable price. Thanks to being a Sony lens, I also find the autofocus to be really top notch (on A7C and A7M3), and it can hold its own even compared with G and GM lens series. And the mechanics are not that bad… it just isn’t anything special to talk about. I like that this lens has custom button, unlike the FE 28mm f/2, which I also own and like (though the 35mm has better AF and optics). The optics is excellent corner-to-corner from f/4 onwards, but if you shoot people or any subjects that do not require perfect sharpness in the corners, you’d be more than happy already at f/1.8. The center is sharp always, the lens nails precise focus easily, and at f/2.8 it’s even sharp alongside the edges, not just in the far corners (but you’d have to shoot perfectly flat subject to even notice that). In real world, it offers plenty great optics in a super compact package. Until I get FE 35mm f/1.4GM this one is an excellent lens to keep.
Kundenstimme

The Sony 35mm f/1.8 is one of those lenses that makes you question why you ever bothered carrying anything heavier. It’s small, fast, and incredibly sharp, with that clean Sony look straight out of camera.
On my A7IV, it’s the perfect everyday lens. The 35mm focal length gives you just enough width for environmental shots while keeping portraits flattering. It’s also great for travel or quick handheld work when you don’t want to lug around a zoom lens.
Autofocus is quick, quiet, and accurate, even in low light. The f/1.8 aperture gives you beautiful depth of field and solid performance indoors or at night. The bokeh is smooth without being distracting, and colors render naturally.
It’s not weather-sealed, but at this price and size, that’s easy to forgive. What matters is that it’s reliable, lightweight, and delivers professional-quality images every single time.
If you shoot Sony full-frame and want a go-to prime that feels effortless to use, this is it. Simple, sharp, and consistent.
Tested with Sony A7IV. Perfect balance of image quality, portability, and value.
